Hi everyone,

This is probably old news to you, but I've just recently learned about a Doom port for the Intellvision.

The Intellivision was an interesting video game console from the late 1970s.
It had a num pad on each controller and allowed to input data, for example.
Expansion hardware was available, too.

If you watch the video, please keep in mind that the processor runs at about 2000 KHz merely.

Have fun. 😁

Best regards,

Edit: Please read: That port apparently was an April joke from 2002.
You can read it in the footnote on the author's site. The Intellivision SDK might be real, maybe. Or not. Not sure. 🤷‍♂️

you may want to check the upload date on that video...

I just did, it's from 2019. ^^

there actually is a doom port for ZX spectrum though.

I heard about that, I think. Another recent version "runs" on a pregnancy tester, too.

The ZX Spectrum is interesting, but the platform has no nice graphics, sadly. 😔
Like CGA, but grainy, with twice the funky colours.

I love Z80 systems, though. Amstrad CPC would be another candidate.
It's a bit like a successor to the Spectrum, also. 🙂

You might need to alert that it is an April's fool joke when you post it on any other day...

Ah, I see. Thanks! It wasn't obvious to me, really.
I'm simply not used to April fools that simple, I guess. Or I simply don't unterstand US humor. 🤷‍♂️

It's a shame the author didn't at least try to work on a port, at least, if he already links to an SDK. 😒

I guess Doom has a history in April fools, too, in general?
That pregnancy tester "port" was a real thing, at least. Albeit merely a graphics demo.

@unknown Thanks for the ViC-20 tip.
I've found an entry for the game here: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Vicdoom

Here's a demoscene production for Intellivision:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUx-f686Wg4

It's not faux, according to the comments.
The graphic abilities of the '79 Intellivision were not worse than CGA (which has gotten a Doom port).
That's why I was so easily being tricked by the faux Doom port.
I still feel being betrayed here. 😢

Just have a look at the Defender of The Crown graphics (new game, 2018/2019 release).:

The guy from 2002 maybe didn't know that,
I understand, but good graphics are being possible on the platform.

Quick update.

Here's an interesting game, Hover Force, which manages to provide a fine visual representation of a "3D" game (top down perspective).
It looks even more natural on a blurry 70s TV via RF connection.
The vertical/horizontal scrolling is also quite good, I think.
Not bad for a '70s console. A C64 port would look worse, maybe.
