I could be older then you. I was in Yugoslavia in 1986. I was done with high school.

Yes, You are older, that age explains also why You are not impressed with C64 😀 You were in a hunt for something else back than 😀 I don't think Your goal was playing games on TV like mine, am i right? But still, You missed the point what Commodore meant in computer world than, and now (but only for older generations).

There is so much lost in translation here.

I never said or even remotely implied that the c64 wasn't great. Not once.

I played many games on my c64c. A bit of programming. But mostly games.

But the commie wasn't my first computer. I bougjt 1 after I got my first pc. Does that sound like someone that didn't like them? Correction I purchased a c64c (breadbins weren't available) after my SECOND pc. Someone had given me a c64 maybe 2 years earlier, I bought a 1541-II, and c64 died shortly after.

Hahahaha, yes, thats almost the case in every part of Croatia, except 4 major cities!

My nephew was there I want to say maybe 10 yeats ago (and took his almost newborn daughter!). He loved it. Croatia was a hip destination then maybe still. I doubt I'd recognize Rijeka or Zagreb. Zagreb was a pretty scary place back then. It didn't even seem to be that populated. Rijeka and Opatia seemed much more busy.

Are you aware of any American fast food restaurants in or near your area? I am not a fan of these places. Just curious 🤣.

They had made Puma suede sneakers and some model trains in Yugoslavia in the 80s. I saw some of that for sale.

I've always been kind of a nerd. It surprised me how much they disliked nerds over there. Back then anyway, seemed very ignorant. My female cousin, 1 year younger, very smart and an avid reader, gave me the weirdest look when I bought a few small graph paper notebooks at a store (they were orange and said "BLOK" on the cover). Damndest thing. They hated nerds more then Americans it seemed! Lol 🤣 🤣

I can think of two reasons, maybe.
a) People think of nerds as annoying, know-it-all
b) Fear

It may sound silly at first, but many people feel unsafe, not to say being straight intimidated by people who seem smart.

Because, they know they have a hard time "winning" on a mental level.
That's why especially the simple-minded* may feel an aversion and anger against someone seemingly smart.

If they see a stronger person, it's not same kind of fear.
Because it's just physical strength that can be beaten somehow.
With a good escape plan, your school's bully can be defeated.

Competing with a smart person is like playing against the computer.

If you're an amateur chess player, your little C64 acting as an opponent suddenly becomes a monstrous creature with sharp teeth and claws.

Same goes for your average math teacher.
That person can scare you more than everything/everyone else.

(*Though there are also exceptions, like always.
People who're mentally disabled/different or have an unusual low IQ may act in another way.
They may act calm and very friendly, are not afraid of smart people/nerds).

I appreciate your analysis. But people are often mean to died in the wool nerds when I was growing up. I was never seen as a nerd. And that's a critical point. If you see a person who doesn't look/act like a nerve breaking rank, a person might be inclined to treat the person, even if only temporarily, with contempt. This was the impression I got from my cousin. It was if I did something absolutely digusting. Depraved even. As if I picked up a Barbie doll and started chewing the head off.

No, people often hate nerds, even if the hatred is misplaced. As an example, I tried to explain to my sister (6 years older then me) that in Iceland they don't have surnames like most of the world. Her response admidst smacking her lips was "that's bullshit ... did you ever see that meme with the little kid ... hee hee hee". Some segment of people are ****ing ignorant and hate thinking, knowledge, or anything or anyone ro do with it.

Yes, i remember going to Zagreb via train with my mother in early eighties, that was ghost city (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSw4hePvYwU). Today, You need 2,5h to drive 20km if You're going from one part to another (7-9 and 14-17h).

Puma shoes were the best thing back than. These were shoes for rich people 😀 Other were wearing "borovo" (in this same factory were produced puma).

Yep. Although I didn't see anywhere near that much of the city, it seems to be representative of the amount of people I saw. I saw other things I don't really want to talk about...

We took a STEAM train iirc from Z to Rijeka. Man was it slow. I fell asleep on the wooden bench with my head on a duffel bag. I woke up 2 - 3 hours later with flu like symptoms. Can't really explain it. After we got a hotel I slept for a long while and was fine.

I liked cheap Puma knockoffs! I really did. I can't remember the name for the life of me, but I found a yellowish browm suede variant at a store called Korvettes. I loved them! I wish I remembered all the particulars. Maybe they were Borovo!

Yeah would love to see Zagreb now. Holy moley. Things must have changed.

I remember this train, it was awful 😀 There was no electricity in the mountains of Lika and Gorski Kotar, so there was Steam Train for that journey 😀
Borovo produced those Puma shoes, and adidas universal also. Do You remember "univerzalke" - we used to call them?
Zagreb is 1 000 000 people City now, the rush is unbearable, i hate to go there except in summer, when all the people are on holydays 😀

I don't know what that word is. I only know I miss my fake.Pumas.

Stop complaining. NYC has 10,000,000 people. ALL of them nuts.

As an aside, does everyone find this as hilarious as I do (and I've watched it at least a dozen times):

So what you're saying is astounding. But maybe what you're saying doesn't apply to the 64. In fact it must not, as there's no way to upgrade a stock 64.

There was the SuperCPU cartridge: https://www.c64-wiki.com/wiki/SuperCPU
Gave you a 20 MHz(!) CPU and up to 16 MB of memory.
There were some other, less well known CPU upgrades for the C64 as well.

Hi there, I' ve just realized that this thing is basically using the Super Nintendo CPU! 😄

I think it's great that the 650x series had evolved into something remarkable torwards its end. It's a happy end, so to say.

Okay.. Anyway, it just came to mind, since I'm reading about/tinkering with Super NES cartridges right now,
which in turn do also contain an 650x core in their enhancements chips, sometimes.
So Super Nintendo -> SuperCPU seemed to be intentional to me.

What I also find interesting is this quote:
"The W65C802 or 65802 is completely software-compatible with the 65C816, but is electrically-compatible with the 6502 and 65C02.
Hence the 65C802 could be used as a drop-in replacement in most systems equipped with a 6502 or 65C02.
However, the 65C802 cannot emit a 24-bit address, which limits it to a 64 KB address space. The 65C802 is no longer produced."

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WDC_65C816

I find this highly fascinating. They way I read this, it means that there could have been an internal SuperCPU for the C64 of some sorts.
If the timings were close to the original 6510, existing C64 software would continue to run as expected.
Otherwise, a second 6510 next to the 65C802 could have been used. With both being installed on some daughter card.
A bit like those PC/XT accelerator cards, which did carry both an 8088 and an 80286 or 80386 processor.
