I have shared a folder on my Windows 11 PC via FTP using Filezilla. On the retro PCs, either the Filezilla Client or Total Commander is installed to download the data. I mainly do this under Win9x and then move the data from there to the DOS/Win 3.1 partition when needed.

That looks like it will work for W98, but how about 3.1 and DOS?

There are also FTP clients available for DOS & Win 3.1, but it sounded like you were using a client with multiple operating systems (DOS/Win3.1/Win98). So, download the files with Win98 and then move them to the DOS/Win 3.1 partition/Hard-Drive afterward. That's more convenient and faster. However, if you want to load “period-correct” directly from each operating system, you'll need to dig a bit deeper than I have.

My apologies, the operating systems will be on separate removable drives rather than side-by-side.

setup mTCP and push the files from win10 to the dos box with a gui ftp client.
