Hello all!

I'm on the hunt for compatible original software for this machine:

As far as I can tell this machine was produced in 1996-1997, just before Compaq bought DEC. I have found one possibility on Ebay, but I cannot justify spending $25.00 on it when there's no guarantee that it will work. In other pictures that I have seen, it's evident that someone decided to downgrade the OS to Windows 3.11/DOS. I don't have the machine here yet because it's getting shipped from Italy to me in the USA.

It probably shipped with Windows 95 OSR1 or OSR2.
Are you just looking for that or you're hoping for some kind of restore CD?

Good luck either way. General information on DEC's last ditch efforts of x86-based computer lines tend to be buried. Your best source for this info might have to be diving into PC Magazine's ads/articles about them (and not some general cherry-picked DEC Alpha or mainframe legacy nostalgia piece).

That's exactly what I was hoping for. Specifically, a Windows 95 with USB support or Windows 98 restore CD from DEC.

There are still some support files and links on archive.org for the Venturis FX-2 5xxx, including a system startup disk and a USB driver. Only seems to officially support W95 OSR2 and for some things I suspect you'd still need their System Software CD.

Thank you for that! I couldn't get that far when I tried going there myself. The $25 CD that I mentioned at the top actually costs more than I remembered and it seems to be the correct one, but I'm still unsure. Link:

I'd wonder if it's the right disk, as I see old ads online for Venturis FX-2 System Software CD Version 1.4 so maybe there were family-specific versions

You could message that seller to check, and if confirmed for the FX-2 series then make an offer!
