I have a Tandy1000 RLXHD B and I want to connect the Tandy joysticks but there is no way to find the 8 pin mini din adapter. I have the regular connectors but I cannot find the pin outs for the 8 pin mini din to make a custom made. Any one that has found an adapter or has a solution for that?
Can you play Sierra games mt32 with the serial to midi adapter?

Yes, using the relevant and requisite modified driver.

I currently have my T1000 RL/HD setup on an Nec 1550m via CGA2VGA Adapter. This works quite well.
Though games look a bit better on CRT, but I can't look at CRT's anymore..so I have to change them to TFT's.

Excellent reult! Is there a Tandy resident driver that allows to use the missing SCREEN 5 and SCREEN 6 video modes in Q(uick)Basic?

P. S. For the Hercules, a similar one existed in the form of qbherc.com (msherc.com).

This thing should make me use the parallel-port (if I make the connection to get a real LPT) in order to hook up a scsi-cdrom but it's very hard to get such a small thing that you are using. Perhaps there is an alternative to that thing here https://www.ebay.de/itm/113994413848?

Can the DOS in the Tandy-ROM be hacked to load an additional driver to make use of external storage-solutions zip/jazz or LPT2SCSI devices? Is this possible?
I will test some VGA cards in my T1000RL/HD to "emulate" cloudschatz's solution.

Would be nice to get the icon collection 😀

Thx!

Not that I know of.

Yeah it always disappointed me that no PC (excluding the Tandy VIS). Could be fitted with a ROM booter version of Windows/ dos.

Because the rom is read only it behaves like a disk drive instead of memory.

If the rom could locate mouse drivers and other goodies into HMA it would be just as good as the real thing.

Also Would be nice to use the rom as memory with windows in it for example to get around the extreme memory limits.

I vaguely remember one solution that sort of made your rom a custom drive but it only worked with bog standard systems (not a Tandy)

Ah well.

currently still collecting tandy-games...

Categories:
1. Games as Tandy singlefile executable
2. Games that have Tandy-support ( I use KGB to check what files the executable load on tandy and make a tandy-only-rip)
3. Games that have Tandy-support but are packed. e.g. how can I rip tandy only out of the early sierra adventures ?

no, but you can switch via software. AFAIK it works with a VGA-card not with an EGA-card.

@Cloudschatze

I know this is an old post, but I would like to ask few details about the connection between 1000RL > Shuttle EPST Parallel SCSI > SCSI ZIP Drive... How exactly do you connect SCSI ZIP Drive to the Shuttle adapter? Is the connection identical to the diagram below?
You've also mentioned "drivers" in one of the posts. I am assuming you are referring to palmzip.sys , correct? Thanks in advance.

XTA2SD up and running. ISA-Slot with ET4K. Yeah!

I believe that was only in prototype stage so far... Where did you get it? And do you always keep your RL open in order to extract micro SD... Externally connected ZIP would be really nice for the ease of data exchange....

I'm afraid I don't have any experience with that particular device. If it's based on the Shuttle chipset, it will likely work.

The connection is indeed basically identical to the diagram, but with the addition of an HD50F-to-DB25M adapter between the Shuttle interface and the Zip drive.

Here's an example of such a setup, with Windows 3.0 running off of the Zip drive.

rl_zip_s.jpg

Driver-wise, you'll need a minimum of EPST.SYS/EPST.EXE paired with ASPIHDRM.SYS/ASPIHDRM.EXE from any of the Shuttle software packages (where the .SYS versions are loaded at boot via CONFIG.SYS entries, or where the .EXE versions can be loaded anytime afterward instead). I can supply the exact versions I'm using, if those are needed.

Now, this all assumes you've installed the necessary jumper pins on the RL motherboard for this to work... 😀

Also, bear in mind that the SCSI Zip drives do not supply TERMPWR, so you'll either need to use an external adapter to power the Shuttle interface, or chain an additional SCSI device to the Zip drive that does supply TERMPWR.

That's excellent. I'm interested in seeing the read/write speeds as reported by DiskTest, if/when you have a chance to grab those.

Many thanks for your detailed explanation. It would be excellent if you can compile those required drivers for the Shuttle connects as I've only got interface without anything else... Shuttle adapter has indeed the power plug, and it requires 5V center negative. Bigger problem would be to source our that HD50F-to-DB25M adapter....
