Does anyone know how to install IE4 or IE5 on Windows 3.11? I have the compacted installation files, 1.36 MB for IE4, and 8.97 MB for IE4. They are the 16-bit versions for IE 3.1x. I instruct the installer to install to C:\IE4 for Internet Explorer 4.0 and C:\IE5 for Internet Explorer 5.0. I have Internet Explorer 2.0 installed to C:\IE2 and Internet Explorer 3.0 installed to C:\iexplore. I'm not sure if the issue is that IE4 and IE5 want to be installed into c:\iexplore, but I doubt it.

During installation, the installer says it is "Downloading site information; please wait. ." Sounds odd to me because I thought I downloaded the full version. Maybe not?

Then it complains that "the downloaded sites data file did not contain a valid URL." Huh?

Followed by, "Setup was unable to download information about the available installation"

I'm not sure what is going on. The computer is connected to the local areal network using a 3Com Etherlink III. IE3 and Netscape both work.

Any idea what is going on and now to get IE4 or IE5 installed?

What is Cintek? Is that some custom branded ver of IE? Any reason why you don't want to use an unmodified ver of IE?
I'd say that install is missing something and it's trying to download.

If it's the Cintek IE browser that can be found from a google search it looks like that install is modified and does some weird things. I'd stay away from it.

Hmmm, wonder if we should upload browsers to vogonsdrivers.

No idea what Cintek is. When I was looking for the old browsers, this is all I could find.

Until now. Found some promising files here, https://browsers.evolt.org/browsers/archive/ie/win16/

The IE4 installer hangs at the point shown in the attached image. At 0%. Moving onto IE5.

Interesting. The IE5 zip package has Tucows on the header during installation. Post-installation, Tucows is listed as the browser's homepage. So I guess this isn't the official Microsoft installer either. At least it works. Not sure what is going on with IE4.

Netscape 3.0. Good idea.

I tried IE4 one more time, and this time the installation progresses, however after 3 attempts, it ends up with this:
