Do these two different Dune II releases have anything that particularly sets them apart? One thing I am semi-sure of is that the former release has a slightly different intro voiceover, specifically at the title screen it has "Dune, the Building of a Dynasty" digitized voiceover during the flipping title screen intro part while the former does not. Do the games differ in any substantial way other than this?

No. You pretty much listed the main difference already. For reasons I cannot recall (something copyright related) the title changed from Building of a Dynasty to Battle of Arrakis. And the Digitized speech that would play at the beginning of the intro (which I vividly remember to this day) is just omitted on the Battle-versions. Albeit the sound files remain present in the game directory. IIRC there is also a slight difference concerning the font and its way of rendering, as well as the text in the menu buttons in the options screen being centered rather than left aligned. I cannot recall more.

jaZz_KCS is correct, the voiceover and title change is the only major difference.

In case you want it, I'll just leave this here: A little patch I made a few years back that restores the voiceover and US subtitle. It's compatible with MrFlibble's patch, which I highly recommend.

4-in-1 build (thanks Phil!): AMD K6-III+ 450 / SOYO 5EMA+ / 128MB SDRAM / 80GB Seagate HDD / Voodoo 3 3000 / Orchid Righteous 3D / Sound Blaster CT2960 / MPU-401 PCMIDI Clone / HxC Floppy Emulator / 15" CRT monitor

I was wondering all these years. Somehow never bothered to look it up. Thanks for the clarification.

Just remembered something:
2-3 years ago Mr. Aaron Powell was leading one of the teams at work.
I had no idea what he was up to in his distant past, until one day in a casual conversation he dropped the "when i directed Dune 2 back in the day ..." .
Vertigo !!

What a moment. 😀
