I used to love this tool back in the day for recovering floppy disks with bad track 0 issues. I've been looking around and can't seem to find it anywhere. More information here:

http://thingsorganic.tripod.com/smartformat_2_1.html

Anyone have it by any chance?

Unrelated, I'm looking for any cool / rare / fun-to-try DOS floppy disk/drive utilities if you have suggestions...

This appears to be SmartFormat 2.1: ftp://cyberia.dnsalias.com/pub/filebase/dos/tformat.zip (yes, the link works)

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. And yes, although the link was finicky, it eventually did work.

I've been scouring for interesting, old DOS floppy utilities and found a few interesting ones I'd recommend off one of the simtel archives:

fr1_00.zip - another floppy formatter that deals with bad track 0 issues.

cleaner2.zip - really cool program intended to be used with drive cleaner disks. The actuation of the r/w head is aggressive and turned out to be perfect for ensuring lubrication spreads out evenly when re-lubricating the stepper motor screw and drive head rail.

vgacp623.zip - absolutely bonkers GUI disk formatter/copier tool with integrated screensavers and all. It's kind of nuts.

Browsers are dropping support for FTP. Waterfox and Seamonkey still support it.

Even the obsolete Internet Explorer browser still support this.

Alternatively one could use FileZilla to access FTP links.

That is what I use to open the FTP links 😉
