The FTP server with Nec drivers is completely dead. Does anyone have an archive?

ftp://ftp.necam.com/pub/ 🙁

I don't mean to resurrect this ~6 month old thread, but because I FINALLY found this link after getting interested in picking up my NEC system fanagling... I figured I'd post the email I got from NEC support back in December of last year:

"NEC Corporation of America shut down the North American FTP site in July 2019 as a result of implementation of new security policies.
There are no plans to restore documentation or other downloads for products that have been end of support for many years. Thank you for your interest in NEC."

This is why the FTP site went down, purely because of security policy updates (probably having to do with a certification, "oh you can't have a public-facing FTP server online! that's an avenue of attack!" and thusly scrubbed to make the higher-ups happy. Inside were a bunch of files needed for some rather old and obscure NEC models-- I can barely find utilities for the SX Plus and SX/20vi I have as it is, so hopefully once I have all those files downloaded, I can get it spread elsewhere so they're never lost again.

Question to those privy to the legalities of this, is it "okay" to host up a mirror of the NEC FTP's drivers/bios/utils sections so long as it doesn't include anything that would have otherwise been marked as internal-use-only or the like? If so, I have plenty of disk space and can host a complete mirror of just those files so to ease the strain of relying on archive.org every time someone needs a single file or two.

I'm starting to host these on my site as well - I've started off focusing on the 486 and early Pentium PC-4xx Versa lines first - but am going to start categorizing and adding more stuff as I dig deeper into NEC's FTP. It's a good thing I found this as I technically own 4 1/2 NEC computers in my collection (Versa 40EC, Versa M/75, Versa P/75, Ready 9522 tower, and I almost have enough guts to have a barebones working second 40EC or 50EC, or V/75). I'm hosting on Google Drive for now until I find a better, more "old school" file host.

Most of the Versa Diskettes require being written out on an NEC system of some kind unfortunatley. I might start making alternate versions that are ZIP files of the disks that allow you to write to a floppy on any PC since I'm sure some of us might be running around without more than one NEC in our collection.

There is always the option to upload to archive.org. I know at least the Abit FTP is mirrored in there, maybe more.

NEC is archived there too - that's where I got it from. I just want to sort out the files and make it easier for people to find them based on model of PC.

Some tips on the NEC FTP ZIP file - it's about 6GB, and most of the drivers and utilities are in there TWICE.....there's one section focused on the actual downloads for NEC's actual support site, and then a second section, at least for the NEC Laptops, that goes by model. That's a lot of fluff (and a lot of stuff for me to dig through). I'm thinking some night I need to just upload the whole FTP to my FreeDOS Versa hard drive so I have EVERYTHING NEC on an NEC machine since I'm getting pretty hardcore on restoring the old NEC machines, as I have four and a half myself with a docking station for all of the laptops.

I may have some files in my chaos archive somewhere. Anything in particular you are looking for?

I'm looking for BIOS updates for legacy models not preserved by necam.com (which includes most of consumer lineup like NEC Ready).

Has anyone tried to download the NEC ftp site from web archive?
https://archive.org/download/ftp.necam.com

Download of the first file "ftp.necam.com.00" was stopped by Windows's antivirus and said it found virus inside the file

I've downloaded it via torrent, and I hadn't such problem.

I'm wondering if I should sort it out, and maybe host the files on my geocities.ws website with a mirror to the links on my neocities site. After all, that's where I pilfered all the Versa drivers I have up for download from.
