I recall this bug from waaay back and I vaguely recall having a fix for it but I can't for the life remember what I used to do.

Basically, Windows 98 half the time doesn't refresh the CD when I insert a new CD. It will sometimes even autoplay the menu of the PREVIOUS CD instead of the newly inserted CD. I have to reboot to fix this. It's annoying since it really slows down things when I'm constantly swapping CDs. Pressing F5 does nothing.

Does anyone have an idea to fix this?

easy fix, eject the CD from windows explorer by right clicking the drive icon and choosing eject. Instead of pushing the button on the cd drive.

That seems so obvious now - thanks!
