My cousin is coming over in a couple of weeks to play some games we played together in our youth:

Duke Nukem 3D
Wacky Wheels
Rott
Secret Agent
Commandos
GTA 1/2
CS 1.5
Quake 3
Battlefield 1942
Mohaa
Sims 1

I have 2 machines in mind for that day:

Athlon XP 3200+, 9800 pro
Pentium 4 3.2, FX5700LE

My plan was to go with Windows 98 and boot into DOS mode for the older games.

I prefer windows 98 due to the nostalgia factor but it's not a must.

But also thinking about dual boot Win 98 + DOS
Or dual boot Windows XP + DOS
or windows xp + dosbox

For ease of use? what would you suggest?

Thanks

What sound cards do the PC's have? If they don't have Dos support then no point running dos.

Networking under XP is more reliable but as long as you set everything up and test beforehand no reason you can't use Win98. Last August I did the exact same thing with my friend with Win98 and it mostly all worked.

Don't forget to install IPX as well as TCP, Some games only supported, many supported both and it's nice to have the option if the other one isn't working in the game for whatever reason.
No point installing dos, Win98's dos version is enough if you do have soundcard that does work in dos mode.
