Unusual question......Can anyone recommend a fax program for Windows 9x/Me?

I am playing with old PCI V92 faxmodem (some kind of so called "winmodem"). I have managed to run dial up server on another computer, but i want to play with fax.....just to remember the good old days 😀. There was a CD provided with this modem (fax program was included), but i lost it and i don't remeber the name.

BTW The sounds and noises of setting up a dial up connection bring old memories to life....and there are some websites which can be still viewed with Internet Explorer 4 and dial up modem 😀

WinFax seems to have been popular back in the day; I'm not sure that can be found nowadays.

Or you can look in Simtels archives, they have some free software for faxing: http://www.lanet.lv/simtel.net/win95/fax.html

(I had thought the fax was a long dead item, but a couple of years ago I was told by a friend that he still used fax to communicate with some legal authorities in Austria, who only supported mailed letters and fax documents, no emails or other modern silliness. His old fax had just died, and we had to find an online alternate service that could send a fax to those luddites.)

WinFax and MighyFax were popular over here too, but weren't usually bundled with modems. Check out Cheyenne BitWare, I had tons of these in CDs back in the day (still version 3.x as fas as I can remember) from Conexant/Rockwell modem bundles. Maybe this was it?

Not that I recommend it, I remember it been pretty awful but windows does come with it's own fax software.

I remember occasionally using word to send a test fax, don't think it did incoming though? (proper faxes came in on a proper machine that didn't even double as a printer!)

Every few years we run into the same situation, usually at least one of the large photocopies is set up for fax but because no one has used it in so long we have to relearn how to use it again each time!
