I have a 4690K on an Asus Z97-A. Of what I understand it should work with XP. I'm using WinSetupfromUSB 1.10. When I try to autodetect the sata (ACHI) HW in the first step I just get "No matching pci id in driverpack.ini file". The USB-stick works on another pc, so it's not that. Runing the XP setup then fail when it can't find any hd. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is this just my normal luck and not fixable?

Try REMOVED (you get to pick which fixes you want in finished install).

In that case, you need to add SATA Z97 AHCI controller driver manually (via a floppy or "bake it in" with nLite).
You probably could mod Z87 driver by simply adding hardware IDs that your controller has.
I assume you aren't trying to boot the install using (U)EFI mode... and USB driver for Z97 is included (on top of USB settings in UEFI BIOS being setup to be compatible with Windows XP).
