Hello,
I was trying to run Qix on an IBM 5150/5161 expansion, and whenever I try to run the game (or similar game like Xonix), it hangs. F5
on DOS 6.22 and SETVER on qix.com to 3.4 didn't work. At some point I had DOS 3.21 and that didn't work either. The video card
is a red ATI VGAWonder+ 256KB working in 8-bit mode with EGA being set to default. Resesting the machine with CGA doesn't
resolve the issue.
At some point I was trying to run Qix through a debugger and trace the execution, but then the screen reverts to the debugger
with endless scrolling.
Few different sources of Qix have been downloaded online, but all of them have the same issue.
Specs:
640KB of RAM
Red ATI VGAWonder+ 256KB (I think it's the 3rd revision).
Russian KM1810VM88 (8088 Clone) with Intel C8087-2
CF-Card 64MB HDD, Seagate ST-225 20MB HDD connected to IBM Xebec type III
BIOS latest revision (Revision C from 27/10/1982)
Monitor Green Monochrome Sonic branded
Blasterboard soundcard
Anyone keen to have a suggestion on what I should try 😀 ?
The only thing I'm thinking is to replace the CPU with another one (an AMD C8088, or Intel P8088 that came with the machine)
because of the 0F (undocumented POP CS) opcode that was found in the middle of the instruction stream.
Flight simulators, car racing, xonix, Wolfenstien 3D 1984 are other games that do not run. Other games, like PC shooter
games are running nicely.
