So I'm trying to get Windows 2000 working on an HP T5630W thin client. Thus far I've gotten every single device to work except this one, and after about 3 hours of trying countless drivers, I'm about ready to throw in the towel.

SIV32L reports it as ven_1106&dev_3288. The rabbit hole of google searches eventually led me to a Microsoft KB file which installs HD audio support, which once run, the audio device in my device manager changes from "PCI Device" to "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus." I've tried every single HD audio driver on VIA's website, all to no avail. Every installer simply says that no compatible device is found on my system, and trying to install drivers manually never leads to it finding anything.

Per ParkyTowers, the device is identified under Linux as "Audio device: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8237A/VT8251 HDA Controller (rev 20)"

Any tips?

If there is Realtek HDA codec (something like HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0262&SUBSYS_103C1720&REV_1002), you can use Realtek HDA driver. Audio part in southbridge VT8237A/VT8251 is connected to some HDA codec, which could be Realtek, VIA and so on. Drivers on VIA website are intended for VIA codecs i.e. VT17xx, 18xx.

You could try this:

I had actually tried an older version of that driver and it didn't work, so I had abandoned the Realtek route. But now I tried an even newer version than what you linked and BINGO....I have sound!

Thanks for putting me on the right path on this one.

can you share driver of link or name of the file? I have a HP t5565 Thin Client with same problem as you, cant find working driver for:

00:14.0 Audio device: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8237A/VT8251 HDA Controller (rev 20)

Thanks in advance

I'll check that out (maybe tomorrow) and post back what driver version I'm using.

Can't you have a look on the board? There should be a HDA codec which is needed to have a complete audio device together with the audio controller integrated into the VIA southbridge (VIA VT8237A or VIA VT8251).

I didn't have a look on Realtek's download pages for a while, but the drivers for everything - except NICs - seem to have vanished!? The new website they released some (some more!?) years ago is also mediocre at best... I liked their old website which had kind of 90s design still in the 2010s.

Whatever... More years ago I decided to mirror the latest downloads for their HDA High Definition Audio Codecs, AC'97 Audio Codecs and PCI/PCIe FE/GbE which were available directly from their website - actually 10 MBit is still missing, seems I have to dig again... Especially for their HDA codecs there may be newer drivers which just have been released by motherboard (etc.) manufacturers and haven't been released on Realtek's website!

Back to topic...this means the latest Realtek HDA codec driver for Windows 2000/2003/XP version R2.74 dated 2014/05/14 should be the appropriate one! You can download it from my website's Realtek driver download page -> https://soggi.org/drivers/realtek.htm.

Hopefully this will help you and maybe some others also!

kind regards
