I’m trying to determine if the ROM version for a CM-32L is v1.00 or not

Is it safe to assume that because the ROM is soldered directly to the PCB it is NOT v1.00? Where as the v1.00 version has a socket? One of Phil’s videos seem to suggest this. What’s interesting is that it’s serial number starts with A and not Z?

Also, does this PCB as a whole look ok?

I found a website that allows you to lookup Roland serial numbers to give you a date of manufacture. This one was end of 1991. Since the CM-32L started production 1989 I think it’s safe to say a 1991 model was not running v1.00

why not just use TAKEGO.MID to be 100% sure? if you have v1.00 rom you will immediately hear it - there is no mistaking

I wish I could. I don’t have physical access to the device. I was trying to determine the version prior to purchase 😝 it’s a bit of a gamble but if it does turn out to be v1.00 I’ll solder on a socket and flash the another rom with the newer firmware. Just a bit more work I guess.

When the device arrives I’ll run TAKEGO.MID and let you know what it is. Wish me luck!

ah I missed the part where you don't have the unit yet 😁
pretty sure it will not be 1.00 so you'll be lucky!

CM-32L arrived today. TAKEGO.MID plays perfectly, no clicking sound. So it’s a v1.02 ROM. Very happy!
