I recently acquired 2 Sound Blaster 16 cards (CT1740 DSP v4.11 ASP/CSP and CT2740 DSP v4.11) and a Yamaha DB50XG Daughterboard for GM/XG games or MIDI files. I've installed the CT2740 with the DB50XG board in my Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus, and I can honestly say, it sounds amazing.
Specs of the card:
Creative Labs CT1747 Bus chip (integrated FM Synthesizer with the bus for the IDE port) <-- no Illegitimate hanging note bug, yet has the Legitimate hanging note bug (very rare occurrence)
ASP/CSP Socket for the ASP/CSP processor
Jumpers, jumpers everywhere. Thanks to PhilsComputerLab for posting this document: Jumper Settings of Sound Blaster Audio Cards - PDF
Volume wheel (potentiometer) for controlling the volume for the line-out, which can be disabled by bypassing the amp completely and using software to control the volume levels, which is nice (see the link above about the jumpers).
Line In and Mic ports
Joystick/MIDI port
WaveTable Header <-- Yamaha DB50XG installed
40-pin IDE CD-ROM Drive port (great for older PCs that only have 1 IDE port for the HDD via the I/O controller card or as a backup alternative if the integrated IDE fails)
I have placed the MPU-401 address from 330h to 300h since I have keropi's Music Quest MPU-401 card installed in my computer for MS-DOS games and Roland MT-32 support. Going to install my Aztech Sound Galaxy NX Pro in my Packard Bell again after changing the jumpers for the IRQ, Main address, DMA, and joystick.
