I've read a few threads that have mentioned setting up a second PC running software to act as a virtual MIDI device, instead of buying expensive sound hardware - are there any instructions on how to do this? I tried digging around. 😀 Ideally I'm looking for something that can respond to SYSEX commands to switch between different virtual synths (or maybe hardware I have in the virtual MIDI machine).
Thanks,
-Ian

Edit: Found Phil's excellent tutorial, still watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSk9S1bkRS8

The FSMP does support loading of presets via SYSEX messages from version 4.6. You can make a preset for each synth you like to use.

Also here's a video about how preset switching can work with the help of SysEx messages:

And some preset switching mid files from Kamerat:
Falcosoft Soundfont Midi Player + Munt VSTi + BassMidi VSTi
(You can extract syx files from them if you want by FSMP itself: Event viewer/debugger -> File -> Save SysEx data from Midi)
Or you can download the tool+syx files directly I used in the video from here:
