I installed a SB16 CT2950 in my 486 computer. It has a CDROM drive attached to the IDE interface.
But the CDROM drive sometimes works and sometimes it does not.
I already swapped the IDE ribbons.

I ran the SB16 diagnostics program and every thing is configured correctly and audio works great.
Passed all test successfully.

One problem I am having is that on bootup the SB16 drivers load fine but the CDROM is not assigned a letter.
So I can’t access the CDROM.

How can I fix this.
Do I need to add some lines to autoexec.bat and config.sys ?

I used this SB16 PnP package from Phil’s-CL. ( ctcmbbs.exe )

You need "LASTDRIVE=Z" in config.sys and MSCDEX in autoexec.bat. The syntax of MSCDEX is easy; basically you only need "/D:<device name>". The device name must match the one used in the config.sys for the cd-rom driver.

Okay thanks, I have it working now. It turned out there was a problem with the CDROM drive.
