Hi,

I ordered ES1868F sound card with ide controller on card
If i connect cd rom drive to sound card via ide do i have to connect 4 pin audio cable too?

Only if you want analog CD audio.

Probably, it looks like that was its original purpose. Question is whether the connectors match those on the drive (usually but not always like the connector shown) and on the card (can vary wildly).

Hi, I'll add another related question of my own:
I have a Windows XP retro PC with a Creative SoundBlaster Xtreme Music. I just recently installed an IDE CD-drive and thought - might as well use a CD audio cable.
But now I remembered reading something about "WDM drivers supporting digital CD music playback" - in other words that there might be no need for a cable.
Any thoughts? Do I still need the cable?
