Yep, pin to pin.

Pinout:

Proper configuration in SETUPDS should be:
IRQ Mode: S-IRQ
DMA mode: PC/PCI

No, the SB Live uses software to emulate a classic SB interface in DOS. The only Creative cards that use a PC/PCI or SB-Link sideband connection are the AWE64 PCI or the AWE64D.

That unpopulated port is marked "SB IN". Anybody know what it was meant for?

As far as I can tell, it is the only Live! model that has that port.

It is an analog sound connection to some addon or a modem or something such.

now i can see a loooooot of 10k ohm resistors and the options to narrow it down seem endless.

what options should i be narrowing down here? any help is appreicated.

my first thought is that this might be common knowledge, and/or the majority of these resistors are very similar across the board (pun not intended) when it comes to soundcards/early video cards? is it easy to screw up choosing the right resistor?

You just need 2 pcs 10k ohm 0805 smd thin film resistors. Brand is not important.

I did this same mod on the same aopen cobra card, but only soldered on the SBLink header, not the resistors. It seems to work perfectly. Is there any concern with not populating the 10k ohms for R49 and R50 ?

This card is amazing.. perfect for my DOS/win98 rig!

The resistors are pullup resistors .. that means that the data line stay at either 1 or 0 when it is not being driven by the motherboard/ymf chip and doesn't float around. There may be additional pullups on the motherboard or inside the YMF744/chipset that do the same job.

You probably won't break it by omitting the resistors, but PC/PCI operation may be unreliable on some combinations of cards/motherboards.

Edit: I just got PC/PCI going on my YMF724 on a C7 processor system.
