Just getting started putting together a new 98 SE system built around a ASUS P2B-D motherboard. I am working on setting up the sound.

Right now I'm planning to use a PCI Aureal Vortex 2 for Windows games.

I then have two ISA sound cards to choose from: a SoundBlaster CT4170 or a Yamaha 3D Sound Card. I'd be using one of them for DOS games. Any advice on which would be better for DOS games in this kind of system specifically?

I also have a Roland MT-32 and SC-55 for midi supported as needed. I have both a joystick-to-midi adapter cable and a Roland UM-ONE usb to midi cable.

Short of perhaps a Gravis Ultrasound, it is anything else I might consider adding to the sound mix here?

If the yamaha has a 719 on the main chip it will be excellent for dos games under 98.

Looks like it does. The main chip reads:

Yamaha
OPL
YMF-719-S
9716 AXYF

Then you already have one of the very best isa cards for win98.
