So I finally purchased a Dreamblaster s2. I have a little Packard Bell Legend 10cd that has the Aztech sound card. It is installed as a Nova 16 Extra in Windows 3.11 when I restored from the master CD. From what I understand this is correct and the card has the Aztech AZT1605-U05 chipset and a midi header. I have played Quest For Glory 4 with it installed and the setup program recognized and allowed me to use the General Midi option. Music plays fine and sounds great.

When I setup Doom, only other game I have tried with MIDI, and select the 330 addressing and all that jazz the game will load extremely slow and the demo and gameplay has a terrible framerate. There is also zero music. For giggles I tried the waveblaster option and of course there is no music but performance appears normal. Is there something I am missing?

I know it's one year later, but perhaps anyone else is on journey for hours why the Dreamblaster S2P stay mute...

I have an Aztech SoundGalaxy 16 Pro II in my computer. Today I wanted to try the Dreamblaster S2P. And all DOS/4GW (like DOOM) games have no music...
DOTT, X-Wing, Space Quest 3 and Monkey Island 1 works fine. Other General MIDI Modules (Dreamblaster X2, S2, ...) work fine on that Aztech sound card in DOS/4GW games.

The same problem with a Soundblaster CT2890.

When i disable the MPU-401 port on that sound cards, I get error messages in DOS/4GW Games. (Duke 3D -> "Could not detect MPU-401." Descent -> " Detection System Failed To Find Hardware")
I get the errors when i remove the sound card (Aztech and/or SoundBlaster).

It looks like a incompatibility Dreamblaster S2P <-> other MPU-401 Interfaces in the system.

It looks like a incompatibility Dreamblaster S2P / SoftMPU TSR <-> DOS/4GW.

I wrote Serge and just got an answer:

Hello

any game in protected mode will not work with the TSR :
for this purpose, there is also a patching tool :  https://github.com/pdewacht/s2ptools/tree/master/s2ppatch
(release is here : https://github.com/pdewacht/s2ptools/releases/tag/20180503)
see also my hackaday page :https://hackaday.io/project/158474-s2p-tiny-p … idi-synthesizer
for screenshot of doom patching

Good luck !
Serge

protected mode = DOS/4GW
