I've got a card the same 724-based card as this one below and it works great for outputting XG sounds and the Sondius sounds, but the moment I try to select its MPU401 MIDI port for MIDI input or MIDI output, the machine hangs and needs a restart. I've tried it with MIDI-OX and the built-in XG player. I used the Yamaha drivers for Windows 98 but the MPU401 doesn't appear in the sound/video game section of the device manager, just the "gameport", so I don't even know how I would change the driver if I wanted to. I can see the MPU401 ports in MIDI-OX and the multimedia control panel though. The PC is a Shuttle SN41G2.

Can anyone provide any pointers? I want to be able to control the XG and VL sounds from a MIDI keyboard.
