Thanks for all your answers 😀

Can I hook a MT-32 up to the Audician 32 plus in combination with the S2 Dreamblaster?
Is it still valuable to hook up a SC55/SC88 now that I have a S2 Dreamblaster?

Which one is better: SC55 or SC88?

Yes.

The Sound Canvas isn't the same patch set as the DBS2. Which one you prefer and how much you prefer it is really a matter of taste.

Yes, you can use the MIDI THRU port to daisy chain modules. You'll need to manually change RCA cables unless you've got a mixer or switch.

For games, probably the SC55. The SC88 doesn't have exactly the same sample set, although it's close. For music, the SC88 is way more versatile.

Thank you!

So a dreamblaster s2 is actually kind of the same improvement as an sc55? And a mt-32 will still be a valuable add-on?

Is there much difference between a X2 and a S2?

They do pretty much the same job, although they have a different sound. If you want to compare how they sound, I suggest poking around Youtube for videos of the DBS1 and S2 (they have very, very similar sounds) and the SC55 so you can judge for yourself.

It depends. Some games -- especially from LucasArts, Sierra, and Origin -- were designed for and really benefit from the MT-32 family. There are even some titles that use specific glitches in certain versions of the MT-32 or take advantage of the more advanced features of the CM-32L. You can also emulate the MT-32 modules to a good degree of fidelity using Munt.

So, you may want an MT-32, an MT-32 family stack, an emulation setup, or you may be completely uninterested. It's entirely dependent on what you do with your retro setup and what you want to accomplish. You also don't need to decide right now.

The X2 is a lot more capable with loadable sound banks that totally change the character of the sound it produces.

I put in a special pc speaker in it, it has its own little charm. I played games like that back in the day when I was a little boy. I know what you mean, I have played internal speaker games through my soundcard. Both options are okay for me 😀

That's kind of how I approach the whole sound thing, too. I'm very curious about all the versions and options I missed out on back then and want to collect and try them, but for my main retro gaming experience I just want it to sound as it sounded to me back when I was younger - as in SB16ish (in my case).
