Hello,

Bought a Sound Blaster Live!5.1 card, working well in Windows 98SE.

Dos is a slight struggle, I am using the Livedos drivers from PHILs Computer Lab (https://www.philscomputerlab.com/sound-blaster-live.html). In DOS I can get most games working however for a few games, Syndicate/Space Quest 1 VGA, it gives a “DOS/4GW Fatal Error: Transfer Stack overflow -- , Microsoft Corp”

Not sure what is going on, any idea how I can fix this?

I access DOS by editing MSDOS.SYS to have "BootGUI=0" command and restart the PC.

Config.sys:

Try adding "STACKS=9,256" to your config.sys

Just remember sound blaster live compatibility in dos isn't very good. It works in a lot of games, but there are many games that don't work too.

Try booting with a DOS 6.2x bootdisk instead of Windows 98's DOS 7.1.

Edit: Tried Windows 95 bootdisk, it gave me the C: drive however same issue "Stack overflow" in Syndicate 🙁. Did Win95 also come with DOS 7.1?

Can confirm it was definitely because C: drive wasn't FAT32.

I used Partition Magic to convert to plain FAT, loaded up 6.22 via boot disk and it worked, could see C: drive!

Win98 wouldn't boot though but went into XP(Dual boot) and coverted it back to FAT32, it worked, everything back to normal!

Ok did this fix the "Stack Overflow issue"? No this did not fix the issue 🙁
