Hi Guys, in your opinion, what's the better choice wavetable sound quality-wise: E-Wave or Dreamblaster S2?

Really depends on your tastes, but I'd say S2 is "safer" it is very well balanced, and sounds good with basically all GM tracks.

E-Wave is bass heavy, so this can be good or bad depending on the game. This also makes it sound more unique with it's own character. Hence I use it a lot more than my S2.

Personally, QWave is my favorite though. 😀

Modules: CM-64, CM-500, SC-55MkII, SC-88 Pro, SY22, TG100, MU2000EX, PLG100-SG, PLG150-DR, PLG150-AN, SG01k, NS5R, GZ-50M, SN-U110-07, SN-U110-10, Pocket Studio 5, DreamBlaster S2, X2, McFly, E-Wave, QWave, CrystalBlaster C2, Yucatan FX, BeepBlaster

I much prefer the S2. It was my first wavetable and honestly I always think of it as the Little Wavetable That Could. It's really commendable for what it is.

One nice trick that the S2 has, at least the parallel version (I haven’t checked the wave table version), is it can emulate a Roland MT32 quite well via SOFTMPU.exe.

It’s not perfect, but a nice feature for those that don’t own one. Luckily I do and that’s how I can say it’s a decent emulation.

The impossible often has a kind of integrity which the merely improbable lacks.

I have some more E-waves ready now (https://www.serdashop.com/EWave).
The current E-wave uses the ESS ES692 chip.
Is there any other ESS wavetable chip that sounds sufficiently different, to consider for E-wave II ?

What is the difference between ES692S and ES692?

I think it's the same. The datasheet in the link refers to both as the same. Maybe the "S" designates something about the package its in or something, I'm no expert... 😀
