I have an SB AWE 32 PnP which works absolutely fine in Windows and DOS, but occasionally it will continually cause Windows to fail to boot on two separate motherboards. On one board it causes shows the IOS: Windows Protection Error and on the other it just shows a more generic Windows Protection Error at boot. Everything will work absolutely fine for a while, then I'll reboot and it'll randomly stop playing ball.

Removing the card fixes the problems and the system boots fine. Or, if I reboot a TON of times, it will eventually work again for a bit.

Any ideas? Is there anything I might be missing in the BIOS?

It is worth to clean the contacts, with something like a pencil eraser.
