Hi all,

I've been googling and searching left and right,
and can't quite find what I'm looking for...

I'm looking for an MS-DOS command-line or UI (must support CGA) music player that can play a regular PCM .WAV file through a COVOX compatible DAC on LPT1.

Also, it must run on a 8086 or 80186 CPU, any kind of executable that requires a 286 or 386 CPU won't work...
I don't see any much problems here as it's not doing any hard computation like an mp3 player would,
it just needs to spend CPU cycles on reading the WAV file and streaming it to and driving the COVOX at a reasonable quality...

Thank you for your time reading this topic,
and hopefully, there's someone here who knows what I'm looking for...

Cheers!,
Terrence

Hi,

not sure what Instruction Set i used to compile it but you can always get Turbo Pascal and recompile it for 8088 if it does not run.
Did not try it yet on a 8088.

Thanks

Matthias

Hi there Matthias,

Thanks a bunch 😀
I'm gonna give this a try tonight after work and hopefully it will work...
I have Turbo Pascal installed (can't remember the version i think it's 3.0 or something) so i could recompile if needed...

Many thanks,
i'll give it a go 😀

Hi,

I've yet to try the executable you posted,
but the zip file doesn't contain any turbo pascal source,
it just contains a windows application WAVEPLAY of 6kb in size, a visual basic library of some kind and a small txt file explaining that it needs VBRUN.dll in your windows directory...
Maybe you posted the wrong file ?

I'll try the WAVEPLAY executable soon in DOS on my XT 😀
