Hi
I have a Sound Blaster Live, model SB0060. The card works great.

The card is supposed to support 5.1 speakers; it has three outputs in the back. However, I cannot select 5.1 speakers in the drivers or surround mixer.

Am I missing something? I would like to use 5.1 speakers with this card.

Thanks for any idea.

Three outputs? Shouldn't it have five?

I think you need a TOSLink cable for the orange output.

No, you have the top output which is digital out... uses a special breakout if I remember correctly.

Then you have two speakers each for three of the 3.5" plugs. Front should be one plug, rear should be another plug, and center/sub should be another plug.

Pretty sure they are labeled as such.

Also... which operating system and what drivers are you using?

yeah that's certainly not toslink, it's a mini-jack instead of the standard RCA connector but if i recall correctly it's possible to use this as a digital out via a simple mono adapter plug. i also seem to vaguely recall something about differing signal levels compared to standard though so maybe that might not be a good idea.

@OP, pretty sure you need to set the speaker config in windows, under win9x that would be under multimedia in control panel.

I have a set of speakers from Dell that uses such a cable to provide a 5.1 or 7.1 setup on a Dell motherboard with integrated sound. IIRC, it plugs into all the sound card's outputs, and then the signals are routed to a special hub that provides further distribution.

Thanks for the replies. I am using windows 98 and I can choose 5.0 in the OS settings, but not 5.1.

Third output is labeled 'digital / line out 3' this I why I still hope the card could work with 5.1.

Unfortunately, this is it 🙁. The card is the model SB0060, however, it is installed with the device id of CT4670.

I guess I will need to buy an eeprom programmer, hopefully it will work to rewrite the eeprom on circuit.

You actually just need the correct driver installer.

See here for a driver that supports the SB0060:

You will need to create an account to download most stuff. However, in that post, it looks like everything is mirrored on mgdx.com
