I have a Roland SC-88 in my DOS PC setup, and I've noticed in certain situations it doesn't sound quite right.

For instance, Doom E1M1:

In most recordings I've found on YouTube (both SC-55 and -88), the first 4 crash hits sound like a "cymbal choke" where the cymbal sound is immediately muted instead of being allowed to "ring" normally. Like in this video:

However, with my SC-88, the same cymbal hits don't sound "choked". Like in this video:

I was wondering if anyone knew what might be the cause of this?

EDIT: Also, when playing back PASSPORT.MID it doesn't seem to want to assign Part 1 (honky tonk) or 9 (orchestra hit) correctly, leaving them on whatever it was last set to.
