Hi all! I have a Compaq Armada 7800 with an ESS1879 chipset, ostensibly through an internal Compaq PCI-to-ISA bridge. I installed Windows 2000 on it since I wanted some more modern amenities than 98, but this presents the problem of not having sound when running DOS games under NTVDM. I know all signs point to VDMsound and that dual-booting 98 or even MS-DOS would be the easier route, but is there any other way to make the sound card accessible through NTVDM?

I checked the "resources" tab for the device in Windows 2000 and it notes IO ranges 220 and 330, IRQ 5 and DMA 1, so I tried simply adding a SET BLASTER line in AUTOEXEC.NT with those, but that doesn't seem to help. Does anyone else have any ideas what else I could do in this situation?

Thanks!

For Windows 2000 you need to use either VDMSound or SoundFX 2000 but for that machine you should play DOS games in DOS.
