Hi!
I recently managed to find a Sound Canvas SC-55 + Sound Brush at a very affordable price (35 euros for both) so I decided to connect them to my CT3670 AWE32 sound card (a "free bonus" in my Tulip DT 5/166). Here there are, SC-55 connected to CT3670 gameport:

If I start DOOM (or DOOM 2, HEXEN etc.) setting the General Midi on port 330, everything works perfectly and I hear some awesome music from the Sound Canvas earphones line-out.

However, if I set the Sound Canvas to MT-32 mode and start Monkey Island (monkey r) ...I just hear some strange piano notes.
By enabling SOFTMPU on port 330, on the other hand, Monkey Island also works correctly with the Sound Canvas in MT-32 mode.

...is this normal? AFAIK Monkey Island supports the MPU-401 UART so it should work properly without SoftMPU, maybe do I need to fine-tune some CT3670 settings?

Thanks so much!

THE NIGHTLAND is my board + video game for Commodore 64.

My experience is that MT-32 support in Monkey Island (and some other games) tends to be quite sensitive to fast computers. With SoftMPU you probably slow it down enough to work. Alternatively, you can just slow down your computer, either by deactivating CPU caches in the BIOS or, if you have an original Pentium MMX, with this handy tool: https://www.philscomputerlab.com/136-in-1-pentium-mmx.html

P.S.: Congrats on your SC-55 find - that price is really great!

just be aware, that SoundCanvas MT32 support is an instrument map only, its not real MT32 support/emulation.
