Hi all,

I've an SC88 which I enjoy using on my 486 desktop, plugged into the SB16 gameport of my system.

What would be the easiest way to get the SC88 working on a more limited system? My beloved IBM PC110 has a docking station with parallel, serial ports and PCMCIA slots. I also have a Toshiba Libretto 70CT (same ports no USB) and janky Libretto 110CT (same ports maybe with USB).

Thanks

JB

You need to hook up in Windows or in pure DOS?

You should be able to use the computer connector on the SC-88 to hook it up to serial and then use SoftMPU to be able to use the serial port as a standard MIDI port.

In using in Windows, I would just get a USB PCMCIA card and then a USB to MIDI adapter... not one of the cheap Chinese junk ones, one of the Roland ones.

If you go this route, here's a local source for the cable: https://carlingfordmusic.com.au/hosa-dbk103-0 … emale-to-din8-m

The serial cable works under Windows as well, drivers are still available at https://www.roland.com/us/support/general_apps_tools/

I'm currently scrounging around for an RS323 to Mac serial cable I'm 99% sure I have, somewhere ... 😀

For Windows 9x, yes this is the correct one.
And if you are using Windows3.x, use the one labeled mpu-401 from the same Roland tools page.
