Games tested: MK2, NQ Rally, Doom, Heretic, Duke, Quake, Screamer - all are starting with sound/music. (I know they are fairly new)
The newest board where I could get sound in pure DOS was: Asus H81M-C/i5-4570
On this board AU8820 it simply works in DOS 6.22 with games mentioned above - using default BIOS settings.
Also, Windows 3.11 can start in enhanced mode using on board SATA set to IDE > Legacy mode. Sadly, AU8820 is not recognized in Windows 3.11.
NB: There is no native PCI support, this board uses an ASMEDIA PCI-E to PCI bridge chip. So there is hope, it might work even in newer Intel motherboards.
Other boards tested using the same DOS /Windows 3.11 drive:
*Gigabyte H55M-S2 (Intel H55) - it worked in DOS with default BIOS settings / Windows 3.11 didn't start in enhanced mode, there can be many causes, didn't investigate.
*Lenovo IS6XM (Intel Q67) - all good / Windows 3.11 started in enhanced using a PCI-SATA VIA6421.
*Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3-B3(Intel Z68) - AU8820 worked in DOS after disabling some on board hardware. First it landed on IRQ 14... Then worked perfectly on IRQ 11. / Windows 3.11 didn't start.
*ASUS A88X-MA. AMD 88X - this is the best chipset for FM2+ family and it has native PCI support. Also AMD claims there is ISA DDMA support for the embedded series - https://subscriptions.amd.com/assets/pdf/amd_ … aper_final2.pdf /
There is no sound in DOS... ASP4DOS.com seems to recognize the card, I hear hear a loud click in the speakers when ASP4DOS kicks in, but that's it...
*Biostar GTA X470 - my main computer - same story... it clicks but no sound.
My latest video: NT 4.0 running from M.2 PCI-E AHCI SSD.
