But I've always found the Vortex cards/drivers to be buggy. It's hard to say if you are having hardware problems or the usual quirks. Even with Half Life which probably has the best A3D 2.0 support, I can hear through walls sometimes.
It's probably best not to use 2048 at all. They are the only release with EAX support, but the quality is rather poor, and those drivers have reversed audio channels in some games.
Thank you, I think this helped me solve my problem. I looked through the drivers linked and noticed that the 'Turtle Beach Montego II Win9x 2046' I had been using explicitly stated "WARNING: Not for Dell Montego". I'm still not sure if my Montego II is a Dell model or not, but I found some drivers for the Montego II on Dell's website. There were 2 English drivers that I found. The first one I tested 'TB2-Eng.EXE' was version 4.06.2031, and the second 'TB2-405E.EXE' was 4.05.2000 (I think 'AU8830 9x 4.06.2000 driver' on vogonsdrivers should actually be named 'AU8830 9x 4.05.2000 driver'. Could someone verify this?).
4.06.2031 seemed to have the same issues as the later drivers, but 4.05.2000 seemed to fix every issue previously stated. Still have some games to test, so I'll post an update if necessary.
