AUDIO: The Photo CD Portfolio format supports full CD quality audio.
A sound card is not necessary to hear the audio of a Photo CD Portfolio.
The audio will playback through either the headphone jack or the audio
out jacks on the CD ROM drive itself.

Sure enough audio came from the front headphone jack when I hooked up speakers. I know redbook audio plays back this way with audio cd's and games with cd audio, but there were no CDDA tracks on any of the Photo CDs. I googled some info and Kodak says that sound is stored in ADPCM format. But I don't understand how this is possible because I thought ADPCM is compressed and has to be decoded by the processor and sound card.

How can a CD Drive decode ADPCM streams by itself?
