I have an ESS Solo-1 card and remember heard someone said the card supports WSS somewhere. I've read the Solo-1 manual and it says it does support WSS. Does anyone know how to make it working?

Constantly looking for the driver for Acer Magic v1 MPEG decoding card.

No.

ESS cards never supported WSS, the manuals are wrong. At best, you can get their native AudioDrive mode working in some DOS games, which will give you 16-bit sound.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Athlon64 3400+ / Asus K8V-MX / 5900XT / Audigy2
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 970 / X-Fi

Thanks, got it.

I tried the native AudioDrive mode in several games, none worked.

Descent - ESS 488/688 Audiodrive - No sound in Test Digital Sound Card
Heroes of Might and Magic 1 - ESS Audio Drive - The Setup program accepted the setting but it sounded the same as SBPro
Heroes of Might and Magic 2 - ESS AudioDrive - Cannot detect the hardware
Settler 2 - ESS Techology ES688 Digital Audio - Cannot detect the hardware
Theme Hospital - ESS AudioDrive - Cannot detect the hardware

What could be the problem?

I think ESS Solo-1 can at best behave as a SBPro with a correct chipset and with the TSR correctly set up.

I'm not sure if ESS ever carried over its AudioDrive capabilities to their PCI products...

Native AudioDrive compatibility got progressively worse after ESS 1688 cards.

I did some tests a while back, and found that the AudioDrive mode on the Solo-1 was barely supported, and that enhanced ESFM was dropped entirely. The slightly older ESS 1868 cards can work, but need an update for games which use the Miles Sound System.
