VOGONS

I have an MSI NVidia FX5200 which i got from a thrift store for a few small bucks. I mainly got that because it has SVideo which is the only one i can actually record from ATM, good OpenGL support, DX9, and ofc can run on an AGP 2x bus. The drivers are a different story.
I used to use a VooDoo3 3000, (which I love, but the lack of 32 bit textures and lack of good DirectX support (and SVideo) kind-of stops me from doing all i want to with this PC), and the drivers for that are all perfect.

On the FX5200, each driver is another story. The newest one causes Need For Speed III Hot Pursuit to halt the system and SimCity 4 to be totally distorted. I tried some others such as 56, but that one causes a BSOD on Need For Speed III Hot Pursuit. They all ran DOS games really well, and the SVideo was superb, but the newest driver causes the screen to glitch (in 98 mode only) when exiting any game using VESA mode VGA graphics.

I tried an ATI 9000, but the drivers were so horrible that I'm taking it out after the first day of buying. (Not impressive, ATI)

What are the best possible drivers for this system?
More notes:

  • 256MB AGP 2x/4x/8x NVidia FX5200
640 megs of PC100 ram (98SE only has problems with 1gb+)
    Windows 98 SE
    Pentium 3 550MHz 100MHz FSB
    Some random SMC LAN card
ESS AudioDrive 1868F Card (I love this thing idk if I can say that enough)
Any other information will be given if required

43.45 or 45.23.

Beside newer drivers causing problems with some old games, I've seen >56.64 not work correctly with 2x boards including 440BX.

Ive tried 45.23, its probably the best I've seen for this card! Thanks for the recommendation!
No problems at all, and even some performance BOOSTS on OpenGL and DirectX games

On my GF 3 I'm runnong 41.09. Oh, And I've reasd somewhere (lost the source) that 61.11 is quite fast on GF4, Same goes for 44.03, read some where it's fast.

GF3 and GF4 are generally good on 9x PCs with an AGP 2x bus, but iirc the FX series has major issues depending on the drivers. The only one I've managed to not have severe issues with is the one I have installed ATM. Some lighting is sometimes wrong, but It's much better than having every model display as a black mess or have the PC BSOD... (Would you believe this card is more stable than my ATI Radeon 9000...)

R200 based Radeons are quirky cards.
