I ordered myself a real nostalgic treat -- a Compaq Presario SR2038X. While not the very best, it is a very nostalgic machine for me, and, with a few upgrades, a decent XP gaming machine!

I've got the CPU and RAM figured out. Now, onto graphics. I'm not craving era-appropriate hardware and I don't care much about CPU bottlenecking, so I decided to put my MSI GT 710 in it.
But is it possible? I've read about people overloading power supplies, and having them blow up - I certainly don't want that to happen. It is a passively cooled card, with no fan to be found. It's extremely similar to this model: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?I … wE&gclsrc=aw.ds and I wouldn't be surprised if mine is just an earlier design of that card. In the specs, it says the recommended PSU is 300 watts. The PSU in my machine is exactly 300 - a Bestec ATX-300-12Z. Would it do any harm to put this card in? The CPU isn't extreme, just an Athlon 64 x2 dual-core 3800+. Would this card work with the 300 watt power supply in my machine, or will the pixies get pissed? Thanks for any advice.

The other installed devices are an Athlon 64 x2 3800+, 2 GB of RAM (DDR2?), a DVD/CD writer, a 7200 RPM hard drive, and a PCI WLAN card.

(Edit: This is not the kind of card that requires a special connection to the PSU. It draws all the power it needs through the PCIe slot. I'm not sure if that would make a difference though.)
