Could they have easily made PCI voodo5500s SLI compitble with multiple cards?
Considering the card could work for at 66mhz in a pci-x slot the idea doesn't seem so ridiculous.

They seem to be more and more available and are dropping in value, given the number of sales during the last year although most sellers try to negate that to keep the prices up. There are currently two V5 6000's for sale over at voodooalert.de.
