Recently I found a rather nice deal for a Voodoo 3 2000 (PCI), and been thinking about picking it up and replacing Voodoo Banshee with that V3 card in my Windows 95 rig.

The question is - will V3 make much of a difference in terms of performance, compared to Voodoo 2 or Voodoo Banshee, on a bottlenecked Pentium 233MMX system? (especially considering the recommendations of just downclocking V3 cards on builds like that one)

Yes. V3's got less thrashing issues a V2 SLI setup would have (new memory controller) so the framerates in newer games (99-00)would be more stable. And in reality for that P233, every 98+ video card's bottlenecked - many just like to hype up 3dfx a lot. You shouldn't need to underclock. My V3 3000 worked just fine as-is on my Slot1s and SS7s in the day.
