Yes, it is the same version after you unpack it. This is the executable i use for screamer rally, no batch file used. just default win98se settings. didn`t try in dos.

Here is what I did:

Hardware:
1. Put in Voodoo2 in PCI slot
2. Install drivers when prompted (Diamond Monster 3D II V4.10.01.0207)
3. Reboot

The game:
1. Install the game (I have the original UK release). I used the default installation path (C:/S2)
2. Run Setup.exe to set sound (SB16 Stereo - 220, IRQ5, DMA 1)
3. Copy the patch files (s23dfx.exe & s2v2.bat) from the rarfile in first thread to the game directory (C:/S2).
4. Run s2v2.bat

Game runs in both Windows98SE DOS Window and in pure DOS (F8 at boot).

Hardware:
Pentium 100
Freetech F586 430FX motherboard
32MB of EDO RAM
Matrox Impression Plus 2MB
Diamond Voodoo 2 8MB
Soundblaster 16 CT2230
Adaptec 2940W SCSI PCI controller
SCSI CD-ROM & harddrive

Software:
Windows 98SE (standard install)
28 Aug 1999 - Diamond Monster 3D II V4.10.01.0207 - DirectX 6 Driver for Voodoo2
Standard autoexec.bat and config.sys with HIMEM, EMM386, CD-ROM, mouse and soundblaster settings.

Do you see the 3DFX logo spinning? The black screen may take some time to get past on certain CD-ROMs/computers. My Compaq for some reason used much more time to load the game than my other machines. So have you waited a minute to see if it does actually start up?

No, no 3dfx logo. Game starts very quick in software mode and in 3dfx mode i hear the sounds but screen stays black.

I will try what you did exactly and will let you know how it goes. It just works in dos?

What happens when you start the game in windows?

Ok, thank you very much for doing this.

Only thing i noticed what was really different was the fact that you use a diamond card and diamond drivers. In my k6 system i use guillemot cards and fastvoodoo 4.0 gold driver.
And you use a pentium 1 system.

So i took my p1 233mmx system, pulled the voodoo1 and put in a diamond voodoo2 and installed the same driver you use. Applied the patch: VICTORY!!!!! FINALLY WORKING!!! 😵

Tried the diamond drivers on the k6 with guillemot cards (only twin set i have) and installed fine, but still a black screen in screamer2......

So something is not right with that system. Now in the proces of a completely new installation of win98se and i hope i will get it working this time.

At least i know i did nothing wrong, just wish i tried the other system sooner 😵 😵

Thank you for your patience! You save me some desk space because the only reason i have a p1 system in place all the time is for the screamer games on voodoo1.

Well, i spend a lot of time on the k6 system again. I can get s2 to run (finally), but only on one v2 card and only with diamond drivers. (and then screamer rally doesn`t work).
When i place the second card, the drivers act up and nothing works right (except screamer rally runs!). Strange how the diamond driver works with one guillemot card but acts up with 2.

Sli works fine on s2 on the p1 mmx! And so does screamer rally! On the fastvoodoo gold drivers which i normally use on the k6 😵

So, i surrender.... i will settle for screamer rally in sli and screamer2 in software mode on this system. If i want glide in s2 i will start up the mmx system.

Thanx for all the help, maybe one day i will build a completely different ss7 system and try again, or maybe the 440bx. 😎

you can try a dgvoodoo for Games that Don't Run with Your voodoo2...

i use that for screamer2 and Carmageddon in win98se with GeForce FX5200.

My Voodoo 2 from thrust always crashed when trying to Run that Games.

SLI can be disabled in the driver. Does this maybe help?

No, unfortunately disabling sli does not help.

Dgvoodoo i used before but for me the whole retro thing is running it on native hardware.
I have multiple ways of running these games, this was just an attempt of getting most games to run on this system as this one houses the voodoo2 cards and since most games run on this system, i use it the most.

Screamer rally and screamer2 run perfectly fine on my p1 mmx system on voodoo1 AND voodoo2 so i don`t know why i can`t get them to run on the k6 system.

But, knowing myself, i will get new ideas and try again sometime 😎

Found the problem! (just couldn`t let it go)

It seems that when i start s2 with the sli setup it wants to display the game on the second card (which has no monitor connected ofcourse). I heard sound every time so i tried it and on the second card it is all fine. But i don`t want to swap the monitor cable every time so i still need a fix.

When i disable sli the game says: 3dfx card not found. So strangely enough it doesn`t see the first card? When i remove the second card the game works also on the first card.

I have tried the sstv2 command for swapping cards but it doesn`t work because the game only sees one card.

Anyone ever had this problem or knows a solution? Again, screamer rally works perfectly and the sli setup is working in other games.

Could it be so simple??

Card one was in pci slot 2 and card two in pci slot 4 (4 works)
Card one in pci slot 3 and card two in pci slot 2 (no 3dfx chip found!)
Card one in pci slot 4 and card two in pci slot 5: everything works!!!!!!!

So, in my system screamer 2 on voodoo2 only works with a card in pci slot 4........??????

VERY strange if you ask me but hey, it works! All other games don`t care so they work as well (thank god).

Thanx phil, if you know the reason for this strange behavior please let me know.

Good thing you got it working 😀

I've seen swapping PCI slots have helped before on Super Socket 7 boards. A Rendition Verite card that would not get IRQ address unless it was in a certain PCI slot.

Yeah, i am a happy camper now 😎

Just curious: Some say if it runs on v3 it can run on v5. Since you got both games running on v3, did you test v5?

Good thing i didn`t run out of pci slots, if it only had four i would be screwed 🤣

Thanks meljor for the advice! Statically linked Glide games also weren't working on my pc, so i arranged the cards differently until it worked (also slot 4-5).

Tip: I always use GTAfx as a sanity test, because it doesn't crash if there's something wrong with the voodoo2 card, or the .ovl file.

Note: with a SLI setup there is no 3dfx splash screen, can someone confirm this?

Note 2: Shadow Warrior always gives me the 'no context' error. I can get it to work in Windows. Maybe it isn't worth it to get running because the software renderer looks better.

My system also doesn`t show the splash screen with sli so i guess that is normal...

I took my screamer addiction a step further and got both games working perfectly on a voodoo3.
Screamer rally was running before on this card but had a lot of garbage on the screen and s2 wasn`t working at all.

Thanks to Vetz`s matrix i got them running both by using the old glide2x.ovl file, picture perfect.

Next up is the voodoo5...... Amazing how many people on the net said all these years that these titles couldn`t work on the later cards.

If only 3dfx had done their homework on the drivers because this is prove that it can be done very easily with the right files.... breaking backwards compatibility was not necessary!

Has anyone been able to find out if "Prost Grand Prix 1998" will work with the Voodoo 3 or not? I was surprised to discover that "Blood" & "Dreams to Reality" apparently do (sorry, don't care about "Tie break Tennis 98".) I have paired Voodoo 2's in SLI, and installed a Voodoo 1 (so I could play "Blood", and maybe the other 2.) Only, in DOS I can't have both Voodoo 1 & Voodoo 2 cards installed and still use the Voodoo 1 card (not having any problem using the Voodoo 2's.) Since "Blood" works with the Voodoo 3, and if I can confirm that I can use both in DOS without the same issue, been thinking of swapping my 2D card out for a Voodoo 3, and removing the Voodoo 1. I'll confirm that I can actually use both in DOS this time, unless I get one for $5 like I did the Voodoo 1 😀

By the way, it looks like the DOS glide list in this topic need 1 more info - the game installs its own glide2x.ovl version or not?
As the example - Tie Break Tennis installs the own glide2x.ovl version in the game directory. And this .ovl just can't detect Voodoo2. You have the 2nd "640x400" resolution in a place of "3dfx".
So maybe if someone hack the detection routine - the game will work w/o troubles?

Have tested some DOS glide games with Voodoo 2 on P4 3.2E/Intel 865 PE/2 GB RAM/7 GB FAT32 HDD volume/WinME real DOS mode patch.
Glide2x.ovl 2.56 (from win9x 3.02.02 drivers).
Have used Freedos 1.0 emm386, xcdrom, shsucdx and ctmouse. WinME emm386 freezes even with 512 MB RAM...
Strange result - Blood 3dfx and Blood Plasma Pack 3dfx can't find the card even if I put glide2x.ovl in the game directory.
Any suggestions?
