I cant get 3d mark 99 to work though so I cant benchmark it to compare

Which driver for the Voodoo2 card is installed? The last ones for Windows 9x need DirectX 7 runtimes libraries.

Late last night I was thinking maybe it was DX related and I think DX 5 is installed and I was thinking i need to update it. Ill try that tonight.

3DMark '99 needs DirectX 6.1 at minimum to run. If you're running Windows 98 SE, 6.1a is built-in.

Thanks! Ill update it. I had DX 7 or 8 installed previously but it seems the Monster 2 install downgraded it to 5

So after updating DX . I updated to 8.1, the benchmark ran, but it had a ton of graphical glitches. Though games dont have glitches and the final scores were better than when I was running it with my vodoo 3 cards. Im very happy with the voodoo 2 in the pentium 1 and will keep this build and consider it finished.

DX versions cannot be downgraded by any install. Just run Dxdiag and You will see what version is installed.
There is a program that can remove DX though, get from here https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/dire … eradicator.html

Atari 2600, TI994a, Vic20, c64, ZX Spectrum 128, Amstrad CPC464, Atari 65XE, Commodore Plus/4, Amiga 500
PC's from XT 8088, 486, Pentium MMX, K6, Athlon, P3, P4, 775, to current Ryzen 5600x.

Each version of DirectX comes with its own DLL files. It is a terrible advice to downgrade DirectX anyway, the sole exception being with hardware that only has crappy drivers.

Yeah that ended up not being the issue. I had at least DX 8 installed the whole time. The problem was the benchmark was set to use triple texture filtering. When I switched to single, it ran fine.

In the end, it ended up being a pretty sweet pentium 1 build. I am very happy with it. I cant wait to finally finish some games I never finished in the past and go back and beat a few that I did finish back in the day.

Moving on to setting up my Pentium 3 build in the meantime.

I have an opportunity to buy a voodoo 3 3000. Should I sell my voodoo 2 8 meg and grab this voodoo 3?

Keep the Voodoo2 in the Pentium and put the Voodoo3 in the Pentium3. The card is maxed out, normally, around 800MHz by 1024x768x16, anyway.

Shadows don't work for Tomb Raider on a Voodoo3 (or 4 and 5), by the way.

Thats the plan. Though I was planning to upgrade the 8 meg voodoo 2 to 12 megs and making it a voodoo 2 12 mb sli ssytem.
I have a voodoo 3 2000 agp card in the p3, but it seems to be over heating and freezing up.

This is kind of an old thread, but I got Tomb Raider running on a P3 1Ghz system with 2 Voodoo 2s in SLI.

I used the 3_03_00_beta_w9x_dx7 drivers and then put the Glide2x.dll and the Glide2x.ovl files in the game folder. The game was patched using the 3dfx patch, the Rush patch will lead to instant reboots. You can get all this from phils website using google.

Then I loaded the game with a .bat file containing these instructions:
SET SST_GRXCLK=90
SET SST_FT_CLK_DEL=0x4
SET SST_TF0_CLK_DEL=0x6
SET SST_TF1_CLK_DEL=0x6
SET SST_VIN_CLKDEL=0x1
SET SST_VOUT_CLKDEL=0x0
SET SST_TMUMEM_SIZE=2
SET SST_SCREENREFRESH=60
SET SSTV2_FASTMEM=1
SET SSTV2_FASTPCIRD=1
SET FX_GLIDE_ALLOC_COLOR=3
tomb.exe

If you're running an SLI system, make sure to check the second GPU for output. For some reason, these old games will use the non-default voodoo card to run things...

You might also have to edit your config.sys file and add the following line:
SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /P /E:4096

Are you getting shadows under Lara, bats, etc. when using this configuration?

He wouldn't be able to run the original 3dfx version (which does show the shadows and doesn't require GLIDE2X.OVL file) with that CPU well. The proper solution would be setting the FSB to 66 MHz and adding the environment variables found in the V2-AUTO.INF file.

Find the latest DX6 driver version for Voodoo2 cards ant try GLIDE2X.OVL (GLIDE2X.DLL is not needed for pure DOS environment) from it instead the one from DX7 version. I use GLIDE2X.OVL from the latest DX6 driver package for Voodoo3 cards with my Voodoo3 2000 and TR1 works fine in pure DOS using Voodoo Rush patch executable without setting any environment variables.

If you need TR1 patched executables for Voodoo1, Voodoo Rush, S3 ViRGE, Rendition Verite 1000/2x00, Matrox Mystique, PowerVR PCX1/2, etc. including SETUP.EXE for soundcard settings, that run game without TR1-CD in drive, just send me a PM and I'll find way to share all of them since it's against the rules to upload such software (or parts of software) here even if it's considered as abandonware.

People say TR1's Lara Croft doesn't have a shadow when using Voodoo 2 or newer. Well, I'm using a Voodoo 2 and she DOES have a shadow!

I was using a Voodoo 3 2000 AGP but the game was too dark, so I decided to replace it with a GF2 AGP + Voodoo 2 PCI to use it mostly with "normal" DOS/Windows games + DOS Glide games (should be more compatible and still perform well enough), and move the Voodoo 3 to a Pentium 3 1Ghz based computer exclusively for Windows Glide games.

Here's the current hardware/software I'm using:
- ASUS P3B-F + Pentium IIIE 550Mhz
- Windows 95 OSR2 on FAT32 (quadruple booting with NT4, 2000 and microXP from the same partition just for fun 😀 )
- AGP Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB 128-bit, up to DirectX 7.0 (45.23_win9x_international.exe)
- PCI Diamond Monster 3D II (voodoo2-win9x-30202.zip)
- PCI TP-Link RTL8139D
- PCI Sound Blaster Vibra 128 CT4810 for Windows sound + Daemon Tools CD image's audio tracks
- ISA Sound Blaster AWE64 CT4500 for DOS sound
- physical audio cable connecting the AWE64 output to the Vibra 128 line-in
- IDE DVD-ROM set to E: with Letter Assigner 1.2.0
- Daemon-Tools 3.47 set to D: + REMOVED CD image for audio tracks (Tomb Raider (Europe).7z)
- DirectX 6.1 (DirectX_6.1.zip, 22.2MB)
- Tomb Raider (Tomb_Raider-PSG.zip), movie files copied from the REMOVED image
- TOMB.EXE cracked by ProZac (1.140.735 bytes, CRC32 72B681EB) renamed to TOMB3DFX.EXE
- or TOMB.EXE cracked by BLH (1.140.735 bytes, CRC32 AFD44E89) renamed to TOMB3DFX.EXE
- GAME.BAT started from within Windows:
@echo off
rem the 2 lines below fix the colors, otherwise image looks green and pink
SET SET_VIN_CLKDEL=0x1
SET SET_VOUT_CLKDEL=0x0
rem the 3 lines below increase the brightness, because I'm scared of the dark
SET SST_RGAMMA=1.50
SET SST_GGAMMA=1.50
SET SST_BGAMMA=1.50
rem executable for Voodoo2
TOMB3DFX.EXE

Result: Tomb Raider running on a Voodoo 2, with 3Dfx splash screen (VD3 didn't had it), adjustable brightness, Lara's shadow and audio CD tracks from Daemon Tools. Sweeeeeet!
