The method detailed on that web page does indeed work. The voodoo2a.dll that he refers to is the one from the Voodoo 3 patch so it supports the higher resolutions. Very lazy of EA not to update the Direct3D driver.

IIRC, the trick is to rename d3da.dll thrash driver into voodoo2a.dll. Use regedit to directly modify the registry to force the game to use Voodoo2 driver. This will enable 1024x768 for Direct3D cards. EA programmers somehow thought that only 3Dfx Voodoo2 was worthy of 1024x768 resolution. I remember I did this for Matrox G400 on Windows XP without any 3rd-party patches.

It actually goes all the way up to 1600x1200 since it was for the Voodoo 3. You do loose the fog from the original/banshee versions.
