VOGONS

In my MSDOS6 PC I have a S3 Virge DX connecting through a Voodoo1.

Recently I setup s3bright to get a nice black background after it boots up.

However, sometimes I go into a game and the display is in monochrome. Sometimes it happens the first game I play, sometimes I play a game in color, go into another game and its back to monochrome.

I also use setmul to slow the PC down for certain games. And I think I have only seen the monochrome in old games that I was slowing down rather than in DOOM say.

I have not been able to pinpoint exactly which factors are causing it, as it seems pretty random. Has anyone seen this kind of thing, and can trace it back to something like s3bright or setmul?

Thanks.

Edit: I should mention rebooting usually fixes the issue, even after applying the same settings etc.

I run a system with a diamond monster 3d and a s3 virge dx for 2d and I haven't ever seen this issue. I also use setmul to run some games on that system as well (its my DOS/95 machine). I was going to say check the pass through cable but if a reboot fixes it...seems to rule out hardware. Is it only in DOS games that it does it? I dont know if you run a version of windows on that machine , if not maybe consider win 3.1 and see if games in windows do it as well?

Occasional B/W display is characteristic for marginal cable contact, leading the graphics card to believing there is a monochrome monitor connected.

Yeah I would dumb you system down to the most basic setup, and see if it stops. If it does, work your way up adding a layer of complexity each time until it starts again.
