Can anyone confirm if this card supports the VESA 2.0 resolutions for Duke 3D out of the box, in dos?

The Riva 128 PCI does for sure but would def like to try this card out. I actually received one but it was DOA unfortunately.

Do you get beeps on power on indicating a failure to detect the card? Or just a black screen, and normal post?

The card might be fine. See here:
Matrox Millennium G200 "No Signal" Issues

You should be able to get VESA compatibility.

Matrox G200 support all common VESA 2.0 resolutions up to 1280x1024.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

This is the greatest internet community out there. The bios recovery tool has me posting with video! Thank you!

Thanks for the info Serpent, Duke3D must be really picky. It’s kicking back to dos stating “VESA driver for 320*400 not found/supported.” Any resolution under 640 in VESA mode, but 640x480 works though.

Any resolution under 640 in VESA mode

Matrox cards never supported these out of the box, but G200 has unofficial TSR which adds uncommon res modes.

Got it, do you know of any cards that do? Besides the Riva 128?

The S3 video cards can work with VESA resolutions lower than 640 without UniVBE, however the most common ones uses VESA 1.2 BIOS and may require to use the S3VBE20 TSR to bring VESA 2.0 support.

Okay, I’ll need to try one for sure. I just tried a Banshee and it doesn’t support these resolutions, for Duke3D, out of the box either.

Thanks Serpent, I was able to run Duke 3D at 320*400 using Gx00VBE on the G200.
