Hi,
I have basically one question concerning two cards:
The first one is a 3dfx Velocity 100 AGP with 8 MB, the second a ATI Radeon 9250 PCI with 128 MB @ 64 Bit.
#1:
I would like to know if it is theoretically possible to upgrade the Velocity 100 to 16 MB of RAM?
This would involve removing the existing four 2 MB memory chips and exchange them for 4 MB ones.
Has this done someone before or knows someone or a website who/where this was done?
Basically it should be possible since the GPU should be able to support 16 MB afaik. But I do not know if the card's BIOS has to support it.
This is more a theoretical question since I am not willing to solder wildly around on this card (at least for now) but I'd really like to know 😉
#2:
Next, I just had to buy a Radeon 9250 some time ago, mostly because of its DVI output on a PCI basis.
This card is equipped with 128 MB of RAM on a 64 bit basis with four unpopulated memory footprints.
Does it make sense to upgrade this card with another 128 MB to get to a 128 bit memory bus or is it just overkill because its GPU just can't handle it performance wise?
I know there is a variant already equipped with 256 MB / 128 bit memory but is this really of any usefulness?
