Hi
After a little bit of help with my recently acquired Gf2 Ultra, I got it this weekend and tested the card in my Dell Dimension XPS B1000 and it seemed to be working ok, so I removed it and cleaned it, a little while later I started getting some lockups in 3d games or benchmarks then later in 2d also, thinking it was a driver issue I tried different drivers but it didn't help.
I've also got a Geforce2 Ti 64mb (which is virtually the same card) in another machine so I swapped that over and everything is absolutely stable with that card.
I'm sure many of you have seen this before but I've had it a few times before recapping cards (Gf2's and 4's), if you hit Start in 98 and go to shutdown when it displays the shutdown/restart/dos options the screen goes kinda dull and when a card needs recapping the screen goes a little hazy and shimmers like it's got an unstable voltage, I know that's not an exact science, it's just something I've seen before, the Gf2 Ultra does this, the Gf2 Ti doesn't, a GF4 I recapped a couple of weeks ago did this before and didn't after the recap.
Sooooo......
On to my problem.
Here is a pic of the card (and one of the Gf2 Ti) I didn't really look that closely at it before but there isn't really much in the way of the usual Electrolytic capacitors and Surface mounts when compared to most cards from this era, I'm assuming because it was an expensive card and well made for it's time.
Would you recommend just changing the 3 surface mount polymers and go from there ?
Also some help with IDing those caps would be great I'm a bit unsure ?
Thanks
Lee
