I've got a nice Voodoo3 3500TV which has a ripped off component in position L502 (see attachment). It should be an inductor (my skills in electronics are very basic so may be totally wrong), anyway based on other cards it's the same as in L510 and L513

I tested shortly the card and it works fine during boot and in BIOS.
I have not booted into the OS or tested it in 3D because I don't know the importance of this component and don't want risk to damage the card further

So my questions at this point are

- What is exactly this "150K" component? How important it is?
- Can I replace it with a modern equivalent one?

Any help would be very much appreciated 😀

Well, I have a more damaged V3-3500 and although I have not tested it yet after the repairs I did to it, I think that it may have to do with the TV part of the card.

Should be easy enough to trace with a larger picture that shows more of the card.

that's an interesting observation
here is a picture of the full card, the components are definitely in the TV Tuner area, are you able to tell if they are for sure related to that?

No idea if this helps but it has your missing cap/resistor on the image, found a second and they both look the same in that area

Appears to be a 150k resistor.

It's a 15uH inductor. Package looks like 1812.
Something like this:

Seems like a super easy part to replace too, any idea what it might be used for ? looks like its near the ram ICs so perhaps voltage regulation for the Vram ?

I highly doubt it has anything to do with the RAM.
Most likely just filtering some sensitive rails for the tuner.

Thanks a lot, this is the info I was hoping to get
So basically I should be fine using the card for gaming while I find/order/replace that inductor

Is this it? https://www.distrelec.ch/en/inductor-smd-15uh … e=50&track=true

Thanks again

Safest would be to replace the inductor with a piece of wire until you get a proper replacement. A noisy rail won't damage anything in this case, but a missing one can, in time, damage something.

The inductor you linked seems fine.

would a piece of soldering wire to bridge the two connections work?
or should I use a different wire?

I am very interesting in following this repair story but I am having a hard time seeing where the problem is in the pictures. Is someone willing to elaborate?

Well, if you somehow manage to solder it, then yes. I don't really see how, since the thing melts while you solder.
You could just use a copper wire, diameter doesn't matter.

I thought to use just a "touch"of heat to make it solder/stick to the pad and let the rest of the wire solid, but in fact it's quite a stupid idea since using a piece of copper wire makes much more sense
